Abstract:
This article is devoted to economic effectiveness in health care. It provides a firm basis for the formulation of health policy, effective management at all levels of the health system, proper signing of contracts between payers and service providers, as well as formulation of the patients' sense of health security. However, both the effectiveness analysis, as well as its measurement is a challenge for economists. Therefore, this article, after the introduction, in which OECD data has been used to illustrate the need to measure effectiveness in health care, focuses on the theoretical foundations of effectiveness analysis and presentation of the most important tools for the measurement of effectiveness. Finally, I present selected results of effectiveness analysis of the health systems in the OECD countries.
