Abstract:
Integrated health care delivery systems play an increasingly important role in the current health care reform efforts in the European Union. At the core of this shift is the movement away from episodic treatment of acute illness events to the provision of a coordinated continuum of services that will support those with chronic conditions. The objective of this paper is, therefore, to discuss the possibilities of boosting the effectiveness by integrating the health care delivery process. The body of the paper is divided into three main parts: first one defines the integration of the health care delivery, second one - reviews the driving forces for health care integration and the last one - provides some empirical evidence of health care integration conducted by the OECD.
