FINANCING OF THE ROMANIAN HIGHER EDUCATION IN THE EUROPEAN CONTEXT

Abstract:
Financing of the public higher education is not an isolated issue but a set of concepts and mechanisms that can decisively influence the quality of the educational system, as well as the socio-economic context of a country. The nowadays continuously expansion of the demand for higher education services puts a high pressure on the national budgets, which, along with the labour market expectations regarding graduates skills make the efficiency and the effectiveness of the educational systems to gain paramount. The present paper analyses the characteristics of the Romanian financing system of public higher education, to provide a real perspective on the extent to which funding mechanisms contributes to the performance of the Romanian universities.
