Abstract: The article is an attempt to follow the historical development of both the teaching and research activities of the Political economy department of the Sofia University from its establishment to the early 90’s. It presents the most prominent authors in Bulgarian economic literature, with the main courses they taught and their main areas of academic interest. The goal of the article is not to make a thorough evaluation of their work, as this is a very ambitious task, but rather to only lay the foundations of such a process.

Keywords: Political economy (PE); Subject of PE; Methods of PE; Classical school of thought; Historical school of thought; Subjectivist school of thought; Marxism. (search for similar items in EconPapers)
