Abstract: The report is an examination of the possibility of applying mathematical methods in studying of the dynamics of certain social processes. Markov chains are used especially to analyze the dynamics of hierarchical structures such as the educational system, the justice system and others. The report uses information from NSI for the period 1997 – 2011 outlining the parameters associated with the average residence time in both systems, the probability of transition from one state to another, and the total residence time in each of the studied systems. These data allow the preparation of some assessments of the state and dynamics of the contingents. The material is illustrated with many tables and graphics.
