CURRENT STATUS AND TRENDS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF EU TRADE POLICY IN 2023

Abstract: EU trade policy development in recent years has been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the war in Ukraine, disrupted supply chains, but it continues to occupy a high place in the agenda of the European institutions and in that of business. This paper presents the features of the Common trade policy of the European Union in 2022, trends for its development in 2023 and its reorientation towards a more geopolitical trade policy with clear commitments to form partnerships with like-minded countries. The concept of open strategic autonomy and the EU‘s active trade policy, especially through intensive trade negotiations and the finalization of trade agreements, reflect the EU‘s desire to chart its own course on the world stage.
