Sosyoekonomi Journal, 2012, issue 17(17)

Abstract: This paper aims to analyze the relationship between the level of economic development and telecommunication infrastructure for the year of 2000 and (level of) NUTS 3 region. For this purpose, Geographically Weighted Regression (GWR) which considers the regional differentials is used. The results of the empirical studies showed that infrastructure affects the economic development both for the general and local level positively. It’s seen that infrastructure affected the economic development mostly the provinces which lie from east to middle and from west to middle regions of Turkey. The least effect is seen at the provinces that lie from middle to North and South regions of Turkey.
