Abstract:
This study investigates a rather old hypothesis of balance of payments. According to this theory which is named as stages hypothesis, a country’s balance of payments of follow a regular path in the long run. The main fact determines the regularity of this path is the level of development. Previous empirical work confirm the linear connection between balance of payments stages and economics development to a certain extent. As a further attempt, we test the validity of balance of payments stages hypothesis by reusing a non-parametric randomness test for Turkey.
