Abstract:
One of the major problems of regional economics literature in Turkey is the lack of data. Regional data in Turkey rarely go before the 1990s. Moreover, outgoing regional data for previous years are not generally comparable. In this study, firstly, a comparable regional income data set was created for the period 1960-2014 through using the results of the studies made for the calculation of regional income data in Turkey. Then, regional convergence analyses were performed using this new data set. These analyses were carried out for the period 1960-2010 and over 26 regions covered by NUTS Level 2. As a result of the analyses made, it is found that there is no convergence between regions in Turkey during the period 1960-2010.
