Abstract:
Health expenditures constitute one of the important issues of health management. It is thought that the health expenditures made to meet people’s health expectancy will contribute to positive growth by developing human capital and economic growth. With the increasing importance of the human capital, a number of studies have been carried out to determine the existence of the relationship between expenditure on issues such as culture, education and health, and economic growth. While there is a lot of evidence that health expenditure affects economic growth positively in developed countries in the relevant literature, it is the purpose of trying to examine whether there is an effect in the same direction for the countries in the group of developing countries. For this purpose, the relationship between health expenditures and economic growth in the MENA countries for the period 2000-2015 has been tested with the panel data analysis method. Analysis results show that health expenditure in MENA countries has a negative effect on economic growth. In addition, the expectation of life at birth and infant mortality rate have reached an effect in positive direction by economic growth.Classification-JEL: C23, I18, O47.Keywords:Public Health Expenditures, Economic Growth, Panel Data Analysis, MENA.
