Some maintenance models and availability withimperfect maintenance in production systems

Annals of Operations Research, 1999, vol. 91, issue 0, 305-318

Abstract: Minimal repair and perfect repair, discussed extensively in the reliability and maintenanceliterature, represent two extreme types of repairs. Many repair or maintenanceactivities may not fall into these two extreme cases. A periodic maintenance model in whichboth preventive and corrective maintenance are imperfect, and two other imperfect maintenancemodels are proposed in this paper. Unlike other imperfect maintenance models, imperfect maintenance in this work is mainly treated in a way that successive operatingtimes of a system are independent and decreasing by a fraction and successive maintenancetimes are independent and increasing by a fraction. The limiting expected maintenance costrate and availability are derived and optimum maintenance policies are discussed for thesethree maintenance models. Based on the obtained maintenance cost rate and availability, aclass of optimization problems with nonlinear programming formulations is demonstrated anda numerical example is presented.
