Abstract:
Abstract Over the past decade there has been growing interest in the determinants of life satisfaction. Within this literature, a new strand has emerged that investigates the link between appearance and subjective wellbeing. This paper contributes to this avenue of research by exploring the association between height and life satisfaction in Russia. Data for this study was taken from the RLMS, a series of nationally representative surveys designed to monitor the effects of Russian reforms on the health and economic welfare of households and individuals in the Russian Federation. Our sample covering more than 90,000 observations shows that there is inverted U-shaped association between height and life satisfaction. Controlling for potential antecedents of life satisfaction, we found that the turning point for height was around 177 cm.
