Abstract: Computers are an essential element in the daily work of any statistician today. With regard to statistical teaching at university level, the situation is completely different. This article describes a project aiming at the integration of statistical software in introductory statistic courses at the Freie Universität Berlin. It focuses on the conceptional phase, the pilot-project, the first deployment at large scale during the winter-term 2004/2005 and the evaluation of the concept. Finally the future of the concept is discussed. Copyright Springer 2008
