Examining individuals’ behavior intentions toward reducing haze through the extended lenses of theory of planned behavior

Abstract: Abstract Motivating individuals to reduce haze contributes to controlling haze pollution. This study used the extended model of planned behavior theory to explore the determinants of individuals’ willingness to implement haze reduction behavior by combining perceived risk, environmental concern, as well as moral norm. Additionally, this study tests and evaluates the direct and indirect effects of perceived risk and moral norm on haze reduction intention. Results indicate that attitude and subjective norm significantly impact haze reduction intention, but the relationship between controllability and haze reduction intention is insignificant. Furthermore, perceived risk and moral norm are significantly related to attitude and haze reduction intention. The study also revealed that risk perception as well as moral norm have direct and indirect effects on haze reduction intention, and the mediating variable is attitude. Results would be beneficial for promoting individuals’ adoption of haze reduction behavior.
