Abstract: Abstract Green production behavior (GPB) of farmers is a key factor for sustainable agricultural development. Investigating the GPB and green production willingness (GPW) of apple growers and identifying the factors affecting both GPB and GPW are the prerequisites for promoting the green transformation of agricultural production. Using the survey data of 366 apple growers in Shaanxi Province, this study employed structural equation modeling to analyze the GPB of apple farmers and explore the relationship between the market environment, government regulation, organizational participation, GPW, and GPB. The findings revealed that the market environment, government regulation, and organizational participation significantly and positively impacted GPW; government regulation significantly and positively impacted organizational participation and GPB; and GPW positively impacted GPB. Moreover, GPW mediated the influence of the market environment and organizational participation on GPB. In conclusion, our results indicate that GPB reflects GPW and they exhibit no deviation in cash crops like apple, providing guidance for better implementation of green production for cash crops in China.
