Abstract:
Abstract This study investigates three different configurations viz. WECS-PV-BESS-ELZ-FC, WECS-PV-BESS, and WECS-PV-ELZ-FC, as appropriate for island societies in Northern Zonal Council (NZC) of India, considering technical, economical, and environmental (Tech-Eco-Envir) aspects as the performance metrics. First, HOMER software conducts a thorough Tech-Eco-Envir analysis of each configuration for the Pathankot site in Punjab, India. The HOMER simulation illustrated that the WECS-PV-BESS-ELZ-FC configuration turns out to be superior to the other two in respect of Tech-Eco constraints, while WECS-PV-ELZ-FC performs better than the others in aspect of environmental concerns, with WECS-PV-BESS-ELZ-FC closely following. Subsequently, WECS-PV-BESS-ELZ-FC, being the most effective configuration for Pathankot site, this configuration is also assessed for one location each in different states and union territories of the NZC of India. The optimal findings in terms of Tech-Eco-Envir aspects from these diverse locations reveal that this configuration seems to have a lot of potential for India's NZC. Furthermore, the technical performance of the WECS-PV-BESS-ELZ-FC configuration as an autonomous micro-grid (MG) is evaluated using MATLAB® simulation, it is encountered that the MG structure's stickily power-sharing to appropriate energy management. The outcomes are also validated through hardware-in-loop analysis, and the familiarity between the hardware implementation and the MATLAB® simulation findings demonstrated the suitability of the proposed approach.
