The dark side of the cascading compliance model in global value chains

Abstract: Abstract In this paper, I discuss the dark side of the cascading compliance model predominantly used by multinationals to improve working conditions in global value chains. Further, I discuss the origins of such dark side. Finally, I argue for the move from cascading compliance to a shared responsibility model for the improvement of working conditions in global value chains.
