Abstract:
Abstract In this paper, reliability and cost analysis of a system comprising a main unit with two non-identical replaceable subunits has been carried out by employing Semi–Markov Processes and Regenerative Point Technique. Both the replaceable and non-identical subunits are connected in parallel. The system consists of a single unit with two separate ink cartridges: one Color cartridge and the other Black cartridge. The system is analyzed under a particular situation when initially both the cartridges are operative, but on the failure of the Color cartridge (subunit 1) the system fails partially and then works at reduced capacity in the presence of a black cartridge (subunit 2) only. Technical failure also leads to total system failure. Various system efficiency indicators such as Mean Time to System Failure, Availability Analysis and Expected Down Time of the System, Busy Period Analysis of Repairman; and Average Number of (damaged) Component Replacements, Color and Black Ink Cartridge Replacements are estimated. Using the data collected from the industry a rough estimate of the system’s profit value is inspected and the behavior of these measures of the systems due to variations in its parameters have been analyzed.
