Abstract:
Abstract In this work, a novel flexible slotted radio frequency identification antenna with frequency selective surface sheet as a superstrate is designed at Ultra High- Frequency global band (860 to 960 MHz) for wireless body area network. The reflection coefficient of this proposed antenna is equivalent to − 15 dB, voltage standing wave ratio is equivalent to 1.4 and radiated gain is measured up to 4dBi with the bandwidth of 200 MHz at resonant frequency 880 MHz. Furthermore, a layer of FSS is designed and placed over the proposed antenna to improve the antenna’s characteristics. The reflection coefficient’s value is improved to − 47.8 dB, with VSWR equivalent to unity with the value of 1.06, and the gain is further enhanced to 6.3 dBi when FSS is integrated with the antenna, which gives us better impedance matching. The proposed FSS integrated-RFID antenna have a better read-range and high gain with better immunity to electromagnetic interference from adjacent bands.
