Abstract:
Abstract Utilization of recycled materials for construction is gaining advantage over conventional materials in terms of sustainable credits. However, the amount of production of construction and demolition waste and its utilization has no comparison. In this paper, the mechanical and durability properties of self-cured concrete with recycled aggregates were investigated. The concrete mixture was prepared at four w/c ratios of 0.3, 0.35, 0.4 and 0.45. The polyethylene glycol 400 (self-curing agent) was used in 1%, 2% and 3% by mass of cement. For each percentage of curing agent, recycled aggregates (0%, 25% and 50%) were added to investigate the mechanical and durability properties of concrete. Compressive strength, split tensile strength, rapid chloride ion penetration (RCPT) and water absorption of self-cured concrete were determined. From the results it is found that self-curing compound provides good quality concrete in terms of compressive strength and split tensile strength better than gunny bag cured method. Durable concrete could be produced with w/c ratio of 0.3 and PEG of 1% even by replacing normal aggregate with RCA by 50%.
