Abstract:
Abstract The rapid digitization of the healthcare sector has made it increasingly susceptible to cyber threats, with ransomware being a particularly damaging form of malware. Our research focuses on the changing landscape of ransomware attacks on healthcare institutions, aiming to identify attack patterns and improve detection methods. These attacks specifically target healthcare organizations due to the critical nature of the data they hold, posing significant risks to patient care, confidentiality, and financial stability. In addition to causing substantial economic losses, they damage reputations and have legal consequences. While existing detection techniques exist, they often struggle to combat sophisticated ransomware tactics. Therefore, our study emphasizes the importance of tailored detection methods that address the unique challenges faced by the healthcare sector to mitigate these threats and maintain industry resilience effectively. Furthermore, our research involves mapping MITRE ATT&CK tactics to understand adversary strategies in healthcare ransomware attacks comprehensively.
