Abstract:
Abstract In order to save experimental cost and to accelerate the execution time in lifetime experiments, the progressive censoring scheme has become very popular in the last few years. In the statistical literature, hundreds of research articles for the progressive type-II censoring scheme can be found. However, it is quite common for some units to be accidentally broken during the experiment. But no work is available so far in the literature of progressive type-II censoring scheme which deals with such accidental breakages. In view of the above, in the present research article, unintentional and random occurrence of accidents or dropouts is considered in the progressive type-II censoring scenario. The lifetime of units is taken as Weibull distribution, which is the most prevalent failure time model. Since the accidents occur in a random manner, the occurrence time of dropouts (or accidents) is assumed to follow the exponential distribution. After developing a model for this situation, we derive maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) for the model parameters along with their confidence intervals. The parameters are estimated in the Bayesian framework to evaluate the impact of prior information, with gamma priors under the generalized entropy loss functions. A numerical study and a real data set are given to exemplify all the methods of estimation developed in this article. At last, the methods for determining an optimum censoring scheme are given.
