Abstract:
Abstract Switched reluctance machines (SRMs) are crucial in Industry 4.0, integrating digital technologies, automation, and data-driven manufacturing processes. They're used in smart manufacturing, electric mobility, renewable energy systems, and advanced robotics. Advancements in converter designs improve performance and fault-tolerant operations. This paper employs the Physics of failure (PoF) simulation software Center of Advanced Life Cycling Engineering (CALCE) simulation assisted reliability assessment (SARA), developed by the Calce Center of the University of Maryland approach, with the goal of enhancing the electronic product development processes. Traditional physical reliability testing methods, while valuable, are time-intensive and may cause design delays. SARA employs simulation techniques to virtually replicate physical tests, reducing time to market and development costs. The simulations cover anticipated use and test conditions, identify failure mechanisms, and estimate time to failure. This paper presents an in-depth analysis of the components in a power converter and a 4-phase SRM drive circuit, focusing on their application in electric vehicles (EVs) for 15 years. CALCE SARA provides a more efficient and cost-effective alternative for virtual qualification, contributing to improved electronic product reliability.
