Workplace mindfulness and job satisfaction: the mediating role of prosocial service behavior in the Indian service sector

Abstract: Abstract Workplace mindfulness is a much-debated and notable aspect, and it has transformed the work culture across organizations worldwide. This study explores the evolving relationships between Workplace Mindfulness (WM) and Job Satisfaction (JS) in organizational settings. Workplace mindfulness has profound implications in the context of organizational behavior, and it is pertinent to investigate the intricacies of its relationship with other organizational constructs. In the present research design, the authors have proposed a framework wherein workplace mindfulness impacts the job satisfaction of employees, and this relationship is mediated by the prosocial service behavior of employees. The study surveyed 323 Indian service sector employees for the current investigation, and the data was analysed using the PLS-SEM 4. The most important highlight of the study is that it has discovered prosocial service behavior as an important factor in organizational contexts, mediating the relationship between WM and JS. Furthermore, the results indicate that WM has a positive and significant effect on JS. The study also provides insights on how organizations can improve job satisfaction by identifying mindfulness traits in employees, designing mindfulness interventions and training programs, addressing mindfulness relevance in emerging workplace trends, fostering prosocial service behavior, and leveraging AI to support mindfulness initiatives. This will lead to a happier and more engaged workforce. The paper discusses the theoretical and practical implications of the findings, as well as the limitations and potential avenues for future research. The study contributes depth to discussions on the emerging face of employee well-being.
