Abstract:
Abstract The paper facilitates salient perspectives on research work accomplished in the assessment of quality in Higher/Technical Education (HTE) till date. The art and science of quantifying quality is systematically analysed, providing a classified overview of various attributes and their implications on the quality. For planned and orderly review, the entire range of referred research work is broadly classified into three perspectives. Various attributes/dimensions are adequately identified presenting entire topography of quality of HTE and the spread of its attributes. Their implications on the overall assessment of quality from different perspectives are critically examined. Several quality models in HTE that facilitated both, system descriptions and prescriptions for further improvements, are discussed. Inherent limitations of various exercises of quality assessment are carefully listed. The paper concludes by citing possible scope for further studies involving combinations of methodologies neutralising the influence of their limitations. The paper contributes differently to broad understanding of TQM concepts in HTE and their impact on its performance measures. The research findings presented in this paper are valuable and useful to the policy makers in HTE, for effectively assessing the level of quality of services, from any particular perspective of concern.
