Youth labor force participation, education, and human capital in Asia, by gender, 1990–2019

Abstract: Abstract This paper presents a wide variety of labor-related statistics to get a sense of differences between regions in Asia and selected World regions or aggregates. These include, by gender, the future expected years of school completed of those who are young, the youth and future labor force, dependency, the youth who are not in school, employed, or in training, population trends and relative levels, and human capital. Gini coefficients and some comparisons between China and India are also presented. The five regions in Asia considered are Central Asia, Eastern Asia, Southern Asia, South Eastern Asia, and Western Asia. The World regions or aggregates are Africa, all of Asia, Latin America, the European Union, the G20, and the World. Importantly, in most cases the statistics are shown by gender as not only differences exist between countries in a region, between regions, and the selected aggregates, but typically also between males and females. National government and international agencies’ policies should reflect all of the differences to be effective.
