Regionale Entwicklung mit und ohne räumliche Spillover-Effekte

Review of Regional Research: Jahrbuch für Regionalwissenschaft, 2007, vol. 27, issue 1, 23-42

Abstract: The development state of regions does not only depend on the own efficiency, but also on spatial spillovers. Positive (backward linkages, use of the infrastructure in neighbouring economic areas etc.) and negative (e.g. environmental effects) spillovers give reason for mutual economic interactions between regions. The spatial econometric analysis allows for a simulation of the labour efficiency with and without spillovers. The production factors and the spatial effects from neighbouring regions explain a high proportion of variation in labour productivity. Especially southern German metropolitan areas are influencing the labour efficiency in surrounding regions. However, in East Germany own and neighbouring effects are only insignificantly marked. Thus growth impulses cannot arise there from surrounding regions. Copyright Physica-Verlag 2007
