Abstract:
Abstract This case study describes the author’s transition from doctoral research to entrepreneurship. It highlights the challenges and strategies involved in transforming academic research into a viable business. The author selected a research topic addressing a significant social issue, which not only met academic objectives but also served as the foundation for a commercial venture. The paper applies the “divide and conquer” strategy from computer science to accelerate project development, integrating this with Effectuation Theory and the Resource-Based View to provide a comprehensive framework for understanding the entrepreneurial journey. It also examines the “exit” phase, providing valuable insights into both successes and setbacks experienced during this period. The paper aims to inspire doctoral researchers, emphasizing how academic knowledge, business insight, and creativity can be harnessed to tackle large-scale societal challenges. This study encourages researchers to explore the potential of their work beyond the academic realm by bridging the gap between academia and entrepreneurship.
