Abstract:
Abstract This paper analyses the impact of homeownership on household well-being in Togo. We apply the difference-in-difference method to longitudinal panel data constructed from the two waves of the Harmonized Household Living Conditions Survey in 2018 and 2021. We found homeownership’s positive and significant impact on households’ economic and subjective well-being. The results remain robust even after several complementary econometric tests are conducted. The study also highlights specific characteristics based on the gender of the head of the household and the household’s place of residence. The implications of the study’s findings are discussed regarding economic policy recommendations.
