Abstract:
Abstract This paper investigates the effects of specific country-level variables on employment in high-tech sectors, which is used as an index of technology entrepreneurship. The sample of the research includes the 28 EU member states for a 5-year time period. The study examines the statistical significance of specific literature-indicated quantitative country-level variables, uncovering the most prominent factors that can affect technology entrepreneurship at the EU level. Study’s empirical results highlight factors such as education, GDP, and venture capital investments as decisive determinants of European employment levels in high-tech sectors. The study’s empirical framework includes a mixed exploratory factor/multiple regression analysis, creating a solid statistical model constituting of 8 independent variables representing basic European external environment indices. The practical implication of this study is to contribute policy makers in promoting the most suitable policies that may boost technology entrepreneurship at a European level.
