Abstract:
Abstract This study investigates the intricate relationship between environmental information disclosure (EID) and green development efficiency (GDE) in Chinese cities from 2005 to 2019. Amid China’s rapid economic growth, concerns about environmental degradation have led to efforts to harmonize economic progress and ecological preservation. Using a Propensity Score Matching-Difference in Differences (PSM-DID) methodology, we analyze the impact of EID on GDE, considering diverse influencing factors. Our findings reveal that EID significantly enhances GDE, with a focus on regional disparities. By employing a robust Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) framework, we quantify the tangible effects of EID on pollution reduction. This study bridges gaps in prior research by exploring the interplay between EID, GDE, and the role of environmental laws. The outcomes offer empirical insights for policy frameworks that promote sustainable development while reconciling economic growth with environmental preservation.
