Abstract:
Abstract This research employs science mapping techniques to conduct a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of 409 scholarly articles extracted from Scopus, spanning the period from 2003 to 2023. The primary objective of this study is to compile and categorize existing literature, identifying its primary thematic focuses within the domain of energy consumption and economic growth. Additionally, we aim to pinpoint gaps in the existing literature and propose potential research opportunities within this realm. Our findings reveal several significant insights. Firstly, prior studies predominantly examine the linkage between energy consumption and economic growth at an aggregate level, with limited exploration of specific energy sources such as fossil fuels, renewable energy, and hydroelectric power. Secondly, a dearth of research exists on the nexus between CO2 emissions, energy consumption, and GDP growth in Asian countries. Lastly, urbanization, globalization, government spending, financial development, and population factors remain largely unexplored in relation to energy consumption and economic growth. This study holds substantial value for both researchers and policymakers. By delineating the thematic focuses and identifying gaps in the literature, it offers crucial insights to guide future research endeavors. Furthermore, it provides a foundation for policymakers to formulate informed strategies aimed at addressing the intricate interplay between energy consumption and economic growth.
