Abstract:
Abstract A special case of the Lorenz order of some interest is that in which the distributions being ranked with respect to inequality share a common finite support set. A characterization of this partial order is provided, together with the identification of operations that we call Robin Hood exchanges which play a parallel role in the finite support setting to that played by Robin Hood (or progressive) transfers in the general Lorenz ordering case. As an example of a setting in which variables with common finite support are compared with regard to inequality, two classical data sets involving social mobility are considered.
