Abstract:
Abstract The selection of seismic intensity measures (IMs) is critical for evaluating earthquake-induced liquefaction. This study investigates the influence of liquefiable sites on IM selection by analyzing the seismic liquefaction responses of 50 sites containing sands with high to moderate liquefaction susceptibility. The performance of 48 IMs at the ground surface is evaluated based on their correlation with the liquefaction safety factor (FL), used here as the demand parameter. These results are compared with IM performance at the base position to assess the impact of liquefiable sites. Among the IMs considered, EPV, VSI, Sv1.0, and HI demonstrated the optimal overall performance for assessing liquefaction triggering at the surface position, whereas If, Pv, PGV, and Vrms perform best at the base. Surface IMs are generally structure-specific, while base IMs are not.
