Abstract:
An earthquake of Mw7.2 on 23 October 2011 occurred in the Van region of Eastern Turkey. The main shock and long series aftershocks caused significant damage and claimed 644 lives. The particular features and the lessons learned are covered. Copyright Springer Science+Business Media B.V. 2012
