Soldiers and priests in business management

Baruch Mevorach ()

Quality & Quantity: International Journal of Methodology, 2015, vol. 49, issue 6, 2649-2654

Abstract: “Soldiers” of organizational performance and “priests” of pure, rigorous research often inhabit not only the same offices, but the same souls. The demands on the organizational consultant and the high-quality lecturer are completely different and are not necessarily related to the job requirements of the quality researcher. Six points, presented in the paper, make it possible to bridge the gaps and reconcile the seeming contradictions between the short and long term considerations, between formal statistical research (the soldier) and qualitative, in-depth historical research (the priest). The tension that exists between the different types of research and the different timeframes can add considerable variety and interest to the life of the priest/soldier and yield interesting and pertinent insights from one end of the organizational-research spectrum to the other and vice versa.
