Abstract: Abstract Interview quality is a concept that is rarely used in survey research, unlike data quality and survey quality, which are well-established concepts in survey methodology. Therefore, based on the main actors of survey interviewing: the interviewer, the respondent, and their output: the survey response, this study aims to investigate the underlying factors of interview quality. We also assess socio-demographic characteristics of the interviewer, field and interview settings, and respondent characteristics that may affect interview quality. The data comes from the 2014 National Research on Domestic Violence against Women in Turkey (VAW Research). We hope to add to our current knowledge on quality issues in surveys. The main findings showed that interview quality can be described as a function of three underlying concepts – interviewer workload, responsiveness and response quality. Furthermore, interview quality is significantly related to age, background, and survey experience of interviewers. Finally, the study presents several strategies for future face-to-face surveys on a variety of topics.
