Abstract: Abstract This paper sketches the development of Loet Leydesdorff’s intellectual and social contribution to the fields of scientometrics and science and technology studies. It is based on both the published record and the available historical records. The paper concludes that Leydesdorff has had an impressive impact on the field and was one of its most generous leaders and mentors.
