Cuban collaboration networks in LIS research at macro and meso levels

Abstract:
Abstract This study examines Cuban scientific collaboration networks in Library and Information Science (LIS) from institutional (meso-level) and international (macro-level) perspectives, analyzing collaboration patterns between Cuban researchers and international partners over several decades using data from Web of Science. The analysis identifies three distinct clusters: (1) a globally-oriented cluster, involving partnerships with Brazil, Canada, Chile, England, Japan, Mexico, and Spain, focusing on scientometrics and bibliometric indicators; (2) a Latin American cluster, including Argentina, Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela, primarily engaged in systematic reviews and clinical trials; and (3) a cluster from advanced economies such as Australia, Belgium, Denmark, France, Germany, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, South Africa, and the USA, centered on Information Technology (IT) Governance and Transaction Costs. The most prominent scientific partner is Spain, which account for 59% of its international collaborations. The evolution of Cuban LIS research, reflected in publication trends, demonstrates a significant rise in collaborative efforts, reinforcing its integration into the global scientific community. These findings highlight the importance of international collaboration in enhancing the visibility and impact of Cuban LIS research and provide insights into the strategic alliances shaping the field’s development.
