Abstract: Abstract The coverage of Latin American journals by international databases influences the visibility of these countries' scientific output, and has a direct effect in their activity index per scientific discipline. Local, regional and international character of the most visible Latin American journals in SCI expanded and restricted databases is analysed, as well as its influence in the percentage share of each country in certain disciplines. Suggestions to enhance visibility of local journals are presented.
