Abstract:
Summary In recent years strategic alliances have received widespread attention of business theory and practice. They represent a specific form of cooperation companies implement in order to achieve and sustain significant competitive advantages. The telecommunication industry is a current example of the importance of strategic alliances. The competitive situation during the opening phasis of national telecommunication markets requires companies to complement their competitive strengths through the establishment of strategic alliances. This is not only true for new competitors entering the market, but also important for the incumbent telecommunication carrier. This article analyses the competitive situation of the telecommunication industry and discusses background, features and perspectives of domestic and international alliances.
