Abstract:
Abstract Path dependence has become a salient feature in corporate discourse. Starting with determinants of technological standardization studies on path dependence are focusing more and more on internal decision processes and competence traps. This paper aims at providing an overview of current theoretical developments and findings of recent empirical studies. Results of the Berlin Research Center of Path Dependence are included. The final part discusses strategies for breaking paths or avoiding path building in corporations.
