Abstract: Abstract Positional decisions are influenced by context. We argue here that the peculiarities of such contexts boil down to choices in the domain of gains versus choices in the domain of losses. A total of 420 people completed one gain domain questionnaire and 445 completed one loss domain questionnaire. The survey evidence suggests that positional choices in the domain of gains shift to nonpositional choices in the domain of losses. This implies that losses are personal rather than positional. The literature identifies several contexts and the contribution of this paper is to condense them all into a single framework.
