Abstract: Zusammenfassung Dieser Beitrag betrachtet strukturelle Grenzen der Effektivität des Nachhaltigkeitsmanagements bezogen auf völkerrechtlich verbindliche Umweltziele wie jene des Paris-Abkommens oder der Biodiversitätskonvention. Dabei wird gezeigt, dass sich globale Umweltprobleme nicht sinnvoll auf rein betrieblicher Ebene in konkrete Ziele übersetzen lassen. Zuletzt wird verdeutlicht, dass die erwartbare Motivationslage unternehmerischer Entscheider eine rein freiwillige Umsetzung weitreichender Nachhaltigkeitsziele im o. g. Sinne eher unwahrscheinlich macht.
