Abstract:
The study revealed that yield decline for crops, the water quality, averting or defensive expenditure for land, irrigationwater and drinking water was increased with pollution intensitycaused by water pollution. The value productivity in seriouslyaffected farms was influenced by both input and averting expenditure; in low affected farms by input expenditure and inmoderately affected farms by quality indices. The policy initiatives suggested to increase the value productivity in seriously affected farms was to increase the household income by provision of compensation or input subsidy or finance forstarting of allied activities. In moderately affected farms, abandoning tannery waste application and increasingly employing irrigation water averting expenditure could enhance the valueproductivity. In low affected farms, allowing the financial institutions to lend credit to increase input expenditure andcropping intensity could improve the same. Copyright Kluwer Academic Publishers 2001
