Abstract:
A German bid from Berlin or Hamburg for hosting the Olympic Summer Games 2024 offers good prospects of success. Germany’s advantage is based on experience in hosting major sporting events, “it’s the country’s turn” voting behavior by the IOC and a solidly growing economy. In order to be successful, both bids require support from at least two-thirds of their population in the IOC public opinion poll. In addition, the IOC would need to consider Hamburg large enough.
