Abstract: Zusammenfassung In den letzten Jahren wird intensiv darüber diskutiert, ob eine hohe bzw. zunehmende Einkommensungleichheit einen positiven oder negativen Einfluss auf das Bruttoinlandsprodukt eines Landes hat. Die Empirie zur Beantwortung dieser Frage ist nicht eindeutig. Die Diskussion könnte entschärft werden, wenn nicht von einem linearen Zusammenhang zwischen Einkommensungleichheit und Bruttoinlandsprodukt ausgegangen wird, sondern von einem umgekehrt u-förmigen Verlauf.
