Leadership and Entrepreneurship: Evidence from a Chinese Household Survey

Jinglin Jiang and Hongyu Xiang

Journal of Applied Finance & Banking, 2024, vol. 14, issue 1, 2

Abstract: This study investigates the role of leadership in entrepreneurship. Using data from a representative household survey in China, we find that people who demonstrate leadership in their adolescence are more likely to become entrepreneurs. This finding is robust to controlling various sets of control variables and various forms of fixed effects. Better venture performance, rather than more risk seeking, seems to be a potential mechanism through which leadership is related to entrepreneurship. Â JEL classification numbers: L26, M13.
