Abstract:
In this paper, the Small Area methods are presented. We use this method to produce estimates of poverty in Greece, at county (NUTS3) level. This is succeeded by combining survey data from EU-SILC 2013 with auxiliary data derived from the 2011 Census. In the application section, we adopt the Fay and Herriot model and we provide estimates for the percentage of Greek population under the poverty line in 2013 and also the mean equivalized income.JEL classification numbers: C13, C31, C51Keywords: Small area model, EBLUP, Fay and Herriot model, poverty, EU-SILC
