Abstract:
The electrification of the transport sector is pivotal in achieving the European Union's climate neutrality objectives, given its substantial contribution to greenhouse gas emissions within the region. Furthermore, this initiative aligns with the broader Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 9 and 11, which underscore the critical importance of fostering sustainable transport systems. However, there is a pressing need for a comprehensive index that robustly correlates with advancements toward the SDGs in general, and more specifically, the electrification of transport. Such an index would facilitate a nuanced analysis of these processes. This article introduces the Sustainable Development Green Index (SDGI), a multifaceted analytical tool that encompasses educational, economic, political, societal, and environmental dimensions. The findings presented in this study support the efficacy of the SDGI and demonstrate its significant potential for analyzing current trends while emphasizing its strong correlation with progress in transport electrification within European Union member states.
